How to Get Over Tech Overwhelm

If you have ever used technology in  any way, you must have experienced overwhelm due to technology at some point. No one is immune to it, not even  me, the Tech Coach.

If only our computers would do what we wanted them to do all the time.  If only we understood all the techie jargon.  If only we could sweet talk our mobile phones and stroke the egos of our printers in hopes of manipulating them to work properly!  Unfortunately technology doesn’t have any feelings and our feelings get hurt and sometimes crushed!  So how do you get over the overwhelm?  Here’s how:

  • Walk away! Get far away from the technology that is driving you mad. If you stick around you will only get more and more frustrated and you will actually do more harm.
  • Do something non-techie. Take a shower, go for a walk or wash some dishes.  Do anything that doesn’t involved technology and if you can involve water that’s even better.  The sound of water increases your creativity and that may give you the creative solution to fix the techie problem.
  • Don’t take it personally. Technology doesn’t care if you hate it and it’s not out to get you.  So don’t let your ego get bruised and please don’t do what  this guy did!
  • Come back when you are relaxed. No one has ever had a great business idea or technology solution while starring at their computer. When you are relaxed your brain has time to cool off, come back to your technology and chances are you will have a solution or you will remember what website or expert to go to for advice. The  Help Desk  For Coaches is a good solution, if I do say so  myself!
