Could This New Search Engine Overpower Google

Are Google’s days numbered? I hope not, but a new search engine launched last week claims that it has what it takes to become the number 1 search engine out there.

The new search engine is Cuil. It had massive media coverage when it launched and became the 106th most popular site on July 28th. That’s pretty impressive but hey when you are competing against search engine giant Google and you claim to have something bigger and better, of course the world is going to check you out!
www.Cuil.com has a few features that may take some getting used to. For instance, your search results are not listed in a linear fashion but rather are listed in columns. In your search results you may get a list of categories that relate to your search and can help you narrow down your searches.

I haven’t had a lot of time to play around with this new search engine but I have yet to be impressed. Is it just too much hype? Is it just a new search engine with “lemon fresh scent”? We shall soon see. Feel free to use the new search engine and comment about your experience here.

From what I have heard, the traffic was mainly out of curiosity. And the search engine was launched as something to sell to Microsoft, since they seem to be on the lookout for new search technologies lately.

I’m glad you said that Stephan. I too think the high traffic was due to curiosity and not fabulous functionality. We shall see where it goes in the coming months.
