My Email Challenge
Whenever I spend a week working on products my inbox will be filled with over 100 e-mails from clients and another 200 or so that are newsletters or from discussion groups. A similar thing happens on Monday’s but on a smaller scale. My goal is to keep my inbox down to less than 20 emails at the end of the day. Those 20 emails are usually tasks that I must complete or reminders to do something else.
Last week I found myself wrestling with an average of 85 e-mails from clients all week long! In order to plow through them and get my inbox back to a manageable size I challenged myself to a game. The game was “How many emails can I reply to/complete in the next 15 minutes?”. After 15 minutes I calculated how many e-mails I completed and started the game again. Soon enough I was down to 30 emails in my inbox. I find that this game really helps me manage my time or else I could really spend 12 hours a day working on my e-mail alone! Of course you can’t plow through all of your e-mails like this. A number of them will need more care and attention, but there are some e-mails in your inbox that only require a one sentence reply.
How many e-mails can you complete in 15 minutes? Let me know by adding a comment below.
